Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I posted a cedar strip canoe on Craigslist and was contacted by someone using the name Micheal Bruce. He said he wanted the canoe for $2000 and would send a cashiers check to me. I was suspicious of the grammatical errors in the emails and wrote to him saying that I wasn’t going to be scammed and that I would not send any funds back from over payment and I requested his address. This individual had been very prompt at responding to emails but I never heard from again after I sent that note. Then, 2 days later, I received a cashier’s check for $5,500. No note or anything. The return address on the envelope was for an overhead door company in South Dakota and the check was drawn on the account of an organization, "NJAHPERD," in New Jersey. Both of these entities are real but unrelated and I have never done business with either of them. I will not be cashing the check but I wanted to put it out there that this happened.
