Type of a scam Debt Collections
*** *** called and identified himself as being from National Arbitration Group….threatened jail time and several felonies for check fraud to a payday loan company. Stated he had filed a fraud case with a county of our past residence (4 1/2 years past) even gave a case number that when I called the county courts in question the Court Clerk assured me that no such case active or pending exists. When I checked into the payday loan company that the supposed check fraud was perpetrated at I found that they had gone bankrupt over 1 1/2 years ago and could not have hired National Arbitration Group to collect a debt….also I have learned that a written check to a payday loan that does not cash is NOT a criminal case and can only be sewed in civil court. It is also a criminal violation for a debt collector to lie about this fact and to threaten jail time. I attempted to give him my address to send any and all pertanant info of the debt and of his case filing and he refused to shut up and take the info. He just kept talking over me and threatening. Any reputable debt collector must provide you with documentation! He terrified us at first with the thought of jail time and it has taken 4 hours and a half dozen calls to sort all of this out! I even vomited! People like this/companies like this are a scourge upon the earth!
