Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

We received a scam text first. The text said to “please contact my wife at this email address about the washer and dryer set.”

After emailing the address given, the reply said that the wife had a disability (dumb) and that is why she has to communicate via email. They would like the set and wish to send a certified check from “his” bank through UPS. Because they REALLY want the set, they would send an extra $50 as well. As soon as the bank cleared the check, a delivery person would come by and pick up the set. Though listed clearly in the ad, they requested the "final price,” and then wanted our name and address to fill out the check. I am aware of the other scams where the check doesn’t clear and then the appliances are gone, they ask for the “extra" money back, or the delivery person is casing the house to see what else is there to steal, so our reply was to ask them to call or speak to us in person about pick-up details, etc. Their reply was that they had already contacted the delivery person to get our appliances, as well as other items around the area, since they cannot come themselves. We ended the conversation when I told them that if they were not willing to speak to us or meet in person, then we were not willing to accept their check.
