Type of a scam Online Purchase
This scammer was not successful as I caught him before any transactions were made. He didn’t give me his name until toward the end of the conversation when I asked, and he said it was Ryan. He contacted me (based on an online listing I have for my car) by text message and said he had a only a few days to buy a car and mine made “the most sense.” He claimed that he couldn’t promise to meet to see the car until I could send him an MV report, and when I told him we would bring one when we met him, he said that he needed it before the end of the day or he couldn’t meet us at the allotted time. He sent me a link to myvinverification.com and told me to use that site, which I had never heard of and charges $25. When I told him we would absolutely not use that website, but visit the DMV and bring it with us when we met him, he stopped responding to my texts. Watch out for this scam!
