I received a call from a hispanic man with a thick accent who said my Memphis Light (electric) bill was past due. He said his name was DeLa Cruz and his ID # was 3051, and that my payment was due or my electricity was going to be cut off.
I have this payment established online and I told him as much. I also told him I would call the company to verify his information and that I’d take care of the problem once I called the company and verified the information was correct.
He was ok with that and hung up saying goodbye.

We received two separate calls at our place of business saying MLGW would be here in 30 minutes to shut off our power if we do not make a payment over the phone. From the caller ID it appears to be the actual customer service number for MLGW.

I got a call that said it was MLGW, my utility company. Even the caller ID had their name. They said the power would be cut off if I didn’t pay immediately. My account isn’t past due, the bill was already paid.

Called and wanted payment of utilities over the phone. Said that they we on there way to turn off our utilities, if we did not pay them right then, there was nothing they could do to stop it.

Caller stated he was calling on behalf of MLGW and someone is on their way to cut off their utilities. I needed to call and make a payment to avoid interruption. The number he gave was 877-828-1690.

Person called in to say that if they did not receive money today our utilities would be cut off. We confirmed our payments were current through the automated MLGW system. We called them back at 1-800-689-2294 and they answered the phone MLGW and asked for our account number and I gave her my address, and asked her to confirm my account number and she said she would not, that I had to give her the account number. It was very noisy in the background, very loud automobile noise that sound like a 3rd world country, although her English was very good. We knew immediately this was a scam.

Susan with MLGW called and ask for the owner, saying she had a disconnect on the business if payment was not made. I said she wasn’t in. So they left the number above and ext 2215. For some reason the call seemed odd. Also our bill was paid and received last month and new one is not due until Sept. 1.
