Total money lost $199
Type of a scam Tech Support
An individual named James called stating that he was a Microsoft tech and had some problems that were occurring on my computer that he could fix. He installed programs like AVG. after he had me install teamviewer. He worked on my computer for hours. He then told me of a $199.00 fee I must pay for the service that he provided. I paid the fee because I am an honest gut and I thought this was an honest individual that worked for an honorable company. This was 1-2 years ago. He called again 2 days ago to state that the programs that he had Installed were defective and he wanted to remove them and refund my $ 199.00 and an additional $ 60.00 (totaling $259.00). He removed the program and stated he was ready to refund, but he needed to make a little refund to make sure it was going to right place, so I had to log into my online banking. I did and he then took control of computer with my account information. He then stated that he had made full refund with out the small one that he said he needed to do. I looked at my account and there was a pending $ 2259.00 deposit. I told him of this and he acted like he didn’t know that refund was more than $ 259.00, that he accidentally refunded more than he should have and that his job was now in jeopardy unless I could MoneyGram $ 1000.00 to him to save his job. Then $1000. the next day after the deposit goes through. I did not. I talked with my bank the next day at 1:00pm and found out the deposit was from my own credit line that was on my online banking. Money gram was to be to Dan Liu in country of China, reason – personal. I have been contacted by James and a woman that he stated was his supervisor several time to see if I ever sent the MoneyGram. The numbers they have called from are (239)400-3718, (239)400-3719 and (239)400-3720. I have told them that I realized that all the money was mine and there was nothing that will be sent to them. I just don’t want this to happen to any other individuals that are as trusting as myself. I hope this information can help to prevent future scams.
Thank you,
