scam – my computer screen had a vicious message of a reported virus that has infected my computer. I could not clear the screen. Calling the number listed on the text message. "Virus A network anti-hacking technician: level 09 text appeared on my screen. I was informed that this was serious, could destroy all my information on the computer ( a hacking issue they claimed). Was told they would dial in and disagnose it live with me watching> I allowed it. A number of screens appeared to show them working, scanning through assorted programming files. I was told the danger of damage was imminent and that I was to contact a store in Naperville, IL immediately. Turn off the computer, unplug it and bring it in for repair – $370-$400 Dollars (information I copied from the screen). I kept the computer on, rebooted and reset the browser. Computer was fine, I believe. This was a definite scam. What can be done to prevent it from recurring on my computer or anyone elses? This was terribly upsetting. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS PROBLEM IS BEING ADDRESSED! THANK YOU!
