Type of a scam Tech Support
On March 13, 2017, I was scrolling on Facebook and going to "read more" about an article when my "phishing" alert started blinking and then my computer began to talk stating I had a serious virus and should contact the number noted. I did so and then began talking with a young man who identified himself as John Patrick from Micra Tech. I asked if he was from Microsoft, as the "micra" had me suspicious. He said they were a technical group that worked with Microsoft. Then his name had me suspicious. And then I could go to a secure website and pay for their services and they would check my computer each month for the fees noted($200 foro 1 year; $300 for 3 years; $500 for 5 years). I could not get out of my computer and figured it had already had been hacked. I told him I needed to talk to my son-in-law who had more computer knowledge and hung up. But I could not ever get my computer back up. Had to get it repaired. And I know of others in my church who have experienced this same thing in the past few weeks. We have all been hacked and paid out money for repairs. Most maddening.
