Type of a scam Online Purchase
I was contacted this morning by someone who called himself Michael Robert. He said he was interested in a musical instrument I was selling on Craigslist. At first, he sounded pretty much on the level, but after I received a fishy-looking email that was supposedly from PayPal (telling me that I needed to pay Michael a fee of $350 via Western Union), the red flags started going up. A later (also supposedly PayPal) email showed up in my spam, saying that I needed to send a person in Texas, who I had never heard of, some money.
I talked to a coworker at my work and he told me right away if someone asks for the buyer to pay money, then it’s a scam, no doubt about it.
The last email from "Michael" was definitely the clincher, and I decided right away, no more! He insisted on my paying him the $350 so he could "go to the next step of action."
