Type of a scam Identity Theft
I thought I was installing McAfee Total Protection software when I received a pop-up saying that the software couldn’t be installed because my computer had too many internal and foreign threats, and I was given a phone number to call. Unfortunately, I called. While I was on the phone with this person, he had access to all my email and files. When I asked him if my computer could be fixed, he said, "Yes, for $249.99." I told him I would have to speak to my husband who was outside. He said, "Can you go outside to ask him?" I told him, "No." He then told me his name was Jay Benson (fake name) and his number was 844-774-7622 and to call him back. I knew immediately it was a scam, but at that point all my personal information had been compromised.
