Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
Scam comes off of LinkedIn as a referral from a trusted friend regarding a job opportunity and it is signed with their name. Upon clicking the link, the scammer uses a reputable jobs bulletin board site to mimic the job posting and solicit your information.
They reach out to confirm the cell phone works telling you you’re approved for the job. Then they wait a few days before sending information to you via mail. They send a cashiers check and ask you to purchase gift cards and fill out a survey on the experience. Cashiers checks take several weeks to verify funds; however, banks will cash them immediately for you. When the bank discovers the check is fraudulent, they come after you for cashing the check…not the scammer. You’ll be on the hook for the funds.
