I got a phone call saying they were from the Los Angeles County Water and Power department and that they have been sending me notices of past due, which I have once not recieved. I was under so much stress already that I fell for it when they told me I needed to pay $900 in cash to get a pre-paid card or else someone was going to come and shut off my power. After I had paid the money (through a pre-paid card) I get another phone call saying they had made a mistake and that I owe $1000 instead of $900 and they had would reimburse me the $900 but i had to pay the $1000 today. Once that happened, the red flags went off, I called the real Water and Power company and they told me this was a scam. I tried calling the number back but it no answer. After about 10 minutes, I get a call back from someone claiming to be the manager and that the person made a mistake on the amount. I confronted him telling him I knew it was a scam and the guy laughs on the phone and goes "I’m enjoying my Pina Colada right now." So all in all I lost $900 as a start up business from all the stress and falling for this scam.
