Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I received a priority mail package with a check for $2945.81 along with instructions to purchase Walmart gift cards totaling $2400. There were a few other stipulations, including $350 as my compensation for completing these transactions. i am not sure how they stop payment after the check is cashed but it is an obvious scam. Please don’t fall for this one. Scammer goes by Tony Cowen but probably uses a host of aliases.

I received a package delivered by US Postal mail with a cashiers check made out for $2945, 81.
A letter, with many grammatical errors, outlined what to do with this money including cashing it and keeping $350 for myself, but I was also to:
Purchase a $45 cashier check made out to the Salvation Army with a picture of this check to be sent to 612-444-7813
Purchase 3 $400 gift cards at 2 different Walmarts with a picture of these checks to be sent to 612-444-7813
Purchase $70 worth of products at 2 different Walmarts for myself
After completing these tasks, I would be sent an address to send the cashier check and gift cards.
