A man stating he was a lawyer (with a foreign accent) called my elderly parents and told them my son, their grandson (they had his real name) was beat up and in jail. Then another person (younger) got on the phone and said "This is (son’s name) Please don’t tell my parents, but he needed money sent ASAP, to get out." My father called me on his cell phone, while my mom was still on the phone with them. I verified my son was fine. My father then took the phone and hung up!

My parents were both VERY upset by this.

Phone call advising a family member was hurt and facing legal charges. Case number given. Area code tracked to a location near Australia. When call back was attempted–no answer. A different number was used to call us again. He identified himself as Bob Green. I identified myself and asked about the scam being promoted. He hung up. In between phone calls we verified no injury or legal problems with family member.

Received a phone call from our grandson. It sounded like him, but yet it didn’t. He stated he had gone to Las Vegas with a friend yesterday. Said they were involved in a fender bender and the police had found some drugs in the friend’s pickup and they were arrested. Grandson said he needed $4000 for bail. He then put his "lawyer" on phone. This guy asked if we could help our grandson. We said yes. He said to go to Best Buy and purchase two $2000 gift cards, then call him and give him the numbers on the back and he would get the money to the court.

We became suspicious and did NOT do this. Was able to contact grandson and he was NOT in Las Vegas. The name of the "lawyer" was William Hendricks and said he phone number was 514 449,2730.
