Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Unsolicited email offering opportunity to be a mystery shopper at local stores…Kroger, Walgreens, Walmart and receive $300 per assignment. I am a very alert, active, time on my hands and with-it 84-year old, so I decided to check it out. Very little personal info was asked for…name, address, email. Next thing I know I received a cashiers check for $2,450 and asked to deposit it and when it cleared, purchase 4 EBay gift cards @ $500 each, scan the numbers and send them to my contact. RED FLAGS went up (not on this earth for 84-years for nothing). I immediately wrote the contact person, Harry Taylor (head of recruitment @ Kroger) to say I was not interested in being a shopper and should I send back the check or shred it? I am sure this is a scam and that is why I’m reporting it. He has not answered me.
