Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

in looking for a job i applied for a secret shopping position. i got emails verifying receipt of the application. i was "mistakenly" sent an email that said i was accepted for the position. the "employee" emailed was Tyler Smith. i replied and was told that email was sent to me by mistake. a short time later i found an email in my spam folder that told me i was accepted. a day or two later i received a priority express envelope with a "shopper survey assignment" and a cashier’s check (Kern Federal Credit Union) in the amount of $1,830. the instructions are to buy 3 vanilla one visa cards in the amount of $500 at a local CVS, Rite Aid 7 eleven or Walmart, note the cashier’s name, time and date of purchase, rate customer service and overall experience of staff in store. send picture of the front and back of the cards to the email given. i am to keep the cards for upcoming assignments. the $300 extra dollars is my commission. the letter states the check is for $1820.

i received an email the day after the package indicating that they knew i had received it.
