Type of a scam Rental
I responded to an ad on Craigslist for a rental home listed as $700 per month. I received a response with the details of the home and its location. I was told not to be surprised at the For Sale sign in the yard as he had the intention of selling the home but decided to rent it out instead. He said the realtor was taking advantage of him and trying to rip him off and to not bother calling them. He gave me a story that he and his wife were going to be out of the country for the next 3-4 years and that rent payments would need to be made through Western Union He said that all he needed right away was the first month rent of $700 and a $700 deposit which was to be made via Money Gram at Walmart. The name and address to send it to was Linda McMillan, 5143 Akron St., Philadelphia, PA. His wife would be the one to pick it up. I was then to send him the tracking number. Once he received the money, he would Fed Ex a package for the next morning delivery with the keys.
I called the realtor whose name was on the For Sale sign and she told me it was a scam. The new owners were moving in by the end of the month. I searched the address I was given to send the money to and found that it was a rental listed on Zillow.
