Firewood SCAM – JOHN & JEAN-ANN from Skutz Falls
RCMP file # 19-680
Feb. 14, 2019 John promised 1 seasoned cord of Fir for $200, or 2 cords of Maple for $270 ea. delivered.
Feb. 23 delivered Fir, charged $270 for Maple (was 80% Fir)… once stacked & woman gone… could see short, not a cord, measurement stacked was 4 x 4.5 x 4.5 = 81 -> NOT 128 cubic foot (which is a cord) 81/128 = .63 cord or equivalent of $432 per cord (ridiculous)
Feb. 27 delivered only Fir, stacked immediately and could see was short, asked John (driver) right then, "How do you measure a cord?"
Immediately John became violent, he knew he’d been caught.
We only wanted to know how he did his calculation, and give him a chance to come clean.
He didn’t, because his "cord" was only approx. 60% of a cord, a rip off and actual fraud.
He assaulted the buyer, broke my glasses, then took/ stole some of the wood back into his truck, then smashed repeatedly into our truck and trailer 7 times, then tried to leave the scene… police caught him at the end of our long driveway.
It is a federal weights and measures offence to sell a "cord", also charge for a cord, but NOT deliver a cord.
The ‘dollars lost’ section is calculated as such $100 loss of overpayment for wood, plus $400 for broken glasses, plus @ $2000 damage to our truck and trailer (at least… currently with ICBC Claims)
