Type of a scam Employment
I was contacted by what looked to be a legitimate account by a research professor on LinkedIn, asking if I was interested in a great employment opportunity. I said I was and received information on a virtual administrative assistant research opportunity at $400 per week for 5-7 hours a week working from home. I was asked to send my resume if interested which I did. The next day I received a very official looking email offering me the position. All I had to do was send a formal response that I would accept, which I did. I then received another email that evening, telling me that I would receive a check for $2900, $2500 to buy a phone, a printer, a computer, $400 for the first week’s pay, and there would be an assessment on the first day, all I needed to do was confirm my name and mailing address which I still did even though this email made me suspicious. I then sent a tweet to the professor I had been communicating with and he said he had not heard from me before and was not aware of anything. The photo on the LinkedIn message I had received has since been removed so I think he is taking steps on his end. Today I received another email with further instructions regarding the check and decided to report the activity here. Please let me know if I should take any other steps.
