Type of a scam Tech Support
techsupport-xfinity.com is actually a site for a company called iTechWyre. This company hijacked my browser and showed an official looking page with audio claiming to be my internet service provider and that they had detected malware viruses and everything else short of an actual terrorist on my hard drive. I contacted their phone number listed and they told me they were the "official comcast support specialists" so I asked what their cost would be I was told services start at $499. So considering I’m tech savvy enough to understand whats really going on I allowed a remote desktop connection where the so-called "technician" would show me all the "infected files" on my PC (I would like to point out that there weren’t any I’m quite fastidious when it comes to my PC’s maintenance and upkeep and had scanned my PC with 8 different virus and malware removal apps and all came up clean). this person opened my windows run command and typed in "inf infected files," knowing what I know I looked at the local address on the window that opened and noticed it was C:\Windows\INF which is a file that contains various drivers and some critical windows files. The "technician" tried to tell me these were all "infected files" and I needed to pay a large sum of money to have them removed. Removing these files would have damaged my windows installation beyond repair at which point I would have to start all over with a fresh OS, knowing this I stopped everything right there and began reporting this everywhere I could, the federal trade commission, the fbi, and xfinity just to name a few. Avoiding this company at all costs is the only course of action that can be taken as long as it exists, this company is the digital equivalent of dumping a cup of water right into your PC.
