Our company received an invoice charging us a $1,220.96 for two Canon Imageclass toner cartridges. We have never ordered anything from this company (who would at those prices?!). The invoice states in small print, "Supplies are warehoused at no charge until delivery is requested," so this may even be one of those deals where they do send the cartridges (which normally cost about $80) if a payables clerk is careless enough to pay the invoice, keeping them barely legal. Please also be aware that they do list a valid contact name for your company on the invoice, making it look more credible. One other person who posted a complaint stated that he recalled receiving a phone call a few weeks earlier from someone he thought was with Canon, asking if everything was alright with his printer, etc., and got the contact name info from him that way. I recall receiving a similar phone call a couple of months ago as well. It is also interesting that every other complaint I have read received an invoice for the exact same amount – $1,220.96, which means these are just printed en masse. When you call the phone number (1-800-672-4161), you are just placed on a short hold by an automated system. After a moment, another automated message from "Customer Service" asks you to state your name, phone number and invoice number for a callback. So apparently, the only phone calls they ever receive are about invoices! Do warn your Payables staff – I think they just rely on having a few of these slip through the system for payment at the bigger companies and institutions.

Received an invoice with an internal manager’s name on it. He checked all company sites, and no one has ever heard of this company. I asked for a purchase order number and proof of delivery and was told that this was a "direct order" based on "your company’s stock level needs." I replied that we do no such type of business and we would not pay the invoice unless they could provide a purchase order number and proof of delivery. I also threatened to report them — after about a week, I received numerous calls and when I finally took time out to speak with them, I was given a "cancellation number" and told they would close the order.

This company sent us a fake bill for Hewlett Packard Laserjet supplies that we never ordered. They didn’t initially return my calls questioning the bill but when i called them and threatened to call the BBB, they immediately responded and claimed it was a billing error. I realize this is an old scam to send bills out for office supplies and hope that accounts payable will just send a check and not double check the source of the invoice, but thought I should warn anyone to verify the legitimacy of their invoices before paying them.
