Type of a scam Employment
I applied for an Accounting Manager position with the company. I received an email requesting an online interview. The interview was conducted over Yahoo Messenger (first red flag). The interview seemed normal, but then they immediately offered me a job (red flag) and told me an employment packet would be sent in the mail. I was told to be back on Yahoo Messenger a few days later to discuss additional details. Once back online, I was told I needed to buy computer equipment from their vendor and they would send me a check for the cost (red flag). Soon after, they emailed me a check (red flag) and asked me to print it, endorse it, and deposit it using my mobile banking app. At this point I called the bank listed on the check, confirmed the account was a fake, and called the police. Since I didn’t fall for the scam, and never deposited the check, I cannot file a police report, so they suggested I report this to the BBB.
