Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

My college student received a two checks for nearly $3000 via US mail. Not knowing any better, and assuming it was for financial aid, deposited the checks to the school. Each envelope had a return address with a personal name from Austin TX. Along with the checks were instructions to buy two $1300 Apple gift cards. A young adult learned a valuable lesson.

I received an email on my school email address that looked like someone who worked at my school telling me about insight survey services so I applied. I was emailed saying that I was approved to become a mystery shopper that my survey packet was sent in the mail. Today i received said packet and inside was a check for $1424 and instructions to buy an apple gift card for $1000 and the rest was mine. Needless to say this check will not be cashed and I hope this report will help other people.

This an email sent from our school for part time work. They ask for certain info but not social. They ask you to deposit the check and then send them the numbers on back of gift cards and then later find out the check has bounced.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Got an email from my school about this survey company. Got a check in the mail for $2460. Was told to deposit it and text 4158540849 when i deposited the check. It was never deposited. My husband also applied. Both of our instructions came from 2 different addresses in Texas. Same amount of money. Same exact instructions: go to apple store and buy two $1000 gift cards, scratch the numbers off and send a picture to the telephone number listed above. I wanted to make sure this was legit before depositing that large sum into my bank account. It was not.
