Type of a scam Tech Support
After trying to get onto my secure banking site I got an loud audible alarm and a blue screen and a lady talking telling me not to turn off my computer as it might crash. They provided a number to call which I did. After they convinced me that my computer was being hacked I allowed them to come onto my computer and clean it up and install firewalls at a cost of $800 +CDN. When I tried to open up the internet and my accounting software program I was unable to do so. I called them at the number they gave me and they said they could fix it for me but as I couldn’t get on my internet this was impossible. After checking with my internet provider I found that my internet was OK but also after checking my internet connections on my computer I found there was no connections set up. At this point I called my local IT person who had to spend many hours cleaning it up, taking everything out and setting it up again. I also called our Credit Card company and they reversed the charge which they did. Now Inilink is calling us and wanting to recover their money because we had authorized the payment and their technicians had done the work. The original bill was $598 US and now they are lowering it to $500 US. They also are saying they will take us to court. They said we could send them a cheque as I won’t let them into my computer to make the payment again and would send me an email with the address to which I should send the cheque. She tried many times to send the email while I was talking to her but it never came through. At this point we told her to call back tomorrow to see if the email actually came through. We are feeling that this is a scam even though they are very adamant that they are legit. Can you please let me know if they are a legitimate company. When I Google Inilink it says their business is Digital Marketing – nothing about computer repair.
