Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill
On August 21, 2018, I received an email from Proterra (electric vehicle manufacturer) with an attached invoice for $12,340 USD. I did not open the attachment. The email gave me a password to open the document — 1234. The sender was Dedra Reece, Accounts Receivable at ext. 8190. I had done no business with the company.
I verified that Proterra, Inc. was a valid company and called. I entered the extension number and got a message that it was invalid. I then spoke with a receptionist, explained the situation. She said that no one named Dedra Reece work at Proterra and that it was a scam…as I had suspected. She suggested blocking the sender’s email address and simply deleting the email.
