Victim Location 53216
Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes
I received a phone call on my land line(caller id showed a Massachusetts call 617-932-0666. The woman on the line said that they were holding a check for winnings and asked if I would be home Friday from 9 to 11, if I had a drivers licence, and if I had $1,000, 5,000, or 10,000 in savings, and said I had won $500,000. Then she transferred me to Alex Silverman who said that the taxes would be $65,000 and that he had been hired as a lawyer by the sweepstakes, that I needed to get $1,500 cash and to wire it.
He said I could verify my winning by calling the Lottery and Gaming Commission in Washington at 202 866 9120 and then changed that to 202 866 9224 give them a claim number 182444 and then call him back at 513 466 1365. He said that his name was Alex Silverman and his company was Silverman Associates.
I called 202 866 9224. I was asked for my name and was told I would receive a call back on the phone on which I called. I called on my cell phone and received a call back on my land line. I was told I won and to call Alex Silverman at 617 932 0618. When I called that number I was told that the number was no longer in service.
Alex then called me on my land line(caller id showed New Jersey call 609 225 5799) and said the $500, 000 would be delivered by Global Security Express. The funds were being held in Buffalo by Mercantile Bank International.
I googled Lottery and Gaming Commission and a Ripoff site came up with an entry describing a similiar incident in May 2015.
