On April 21, 2019 I was on my computer and suddenly the screen went black and a warning appeared from "Microsoft" indicating my computer had been compromised and that if I shut it down I would lose everything. I was directed to call a number on the screen. Believing the error message was from Microsoft I called and was connected with “Nexway. I was diligent in asking the person on the phone, where he was located, “Bakersfield California” he said. Since I am from California, Bakersfield is a known city so no red flags appeared. He also went on to say that my first name was beautiful as it was the same as his girlfriends. I could tell he had an Indian (the country) accent so I asked him if his girlfriend was also from India, curious about her origin because of the rare usage of the name Ruth, especially by an Indian. No, she was from Bakersfield and he told me that he met her at work. This person led me to believe he was scanning my computer for hacking, malaware, etc. He asked me to type in codes to access my computer on the premise of fixing those errors. He showed me on the screen all my files that had supposedly been compromised and suggested I needed a firewall which cost $399 for an individual (more for a business) to protect against further hacks. By his illustration to me of the above aforementioned compromised files I believed this to be true. He then took my credit card information and connected me to a third party named PC Network Care which then downloaded supposedly firewall software. This all took place on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019.
Monday, April 22, 2019 I began receiving phone calls from an individual from Nexway with a heavy Indian accent who stated that the server had crashed and that they were going to give me a refund but I needed to access forms. Bells started ringing loudly in my head and maybe I had been duped. I ended the call.
The address given on PC Network Care’s website is 875 Alumni Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32246. I googled map searched the address and it shows a house on the corner of Santa Fe Street and Alumni Way in Jacksonville FL. The house shown is on the corner of Santa Fe Street and Alumni Way with the front door facing the Santa Fe Street side. The Alumni side has no structures. In fact the house numbers for Alumni Way are 5 digit numbers, and the number 875 does not exist on Santa Fe Street. Presumably a fake address.
The charges on my credit card are assigned to “Nexway Assured Money Nexw”. Obviously resembling the name “Nexway”, but no mention of PC Network Care who supposedly downloaded the software to fix the “firewall problem”.
Things are not what always what they seem! I have come to learn from an IT expert that since Microsoft 7 (I have Microsoft 10) a firewall comes installed.
Hope you can doing something about this!

My computer was seized. A screen popped up on my laptop identifying itself as Apple Care claiming there was a virus on my laptop. I then had no control over my laptop and another screen popped telling me to call a posted number. That call connected me to Nexway. They kept me on the phone for over an hour. I felt pressure to buy their product which is how they got my credit card number. I finally hung up the phone. The next day I took my laptop to Apple and had all viruses removed. Unfortunately I was not able to cancel the transaction. There was no product purchased. I want a refund.
