Type of a scam Employment
Mcmills Construction emailed me regarding a remote position for admin assistant. The first thing the email mentions is that the starting pay is $25.50 – $29.75 (first red flag) Their email said to download the hangouts app to my phone or computer & send a message to [email protected] (second red flag). This "Michelle" person was polite enough. The first thing she did was apologize for the unorthodox way of conducting an interview. However, like any typical scammer, her punctuation was off during the entire interaction (third red flag). Several questions into the interview, she asked me for the name of my bank to "see if it tallies withe the company’s official salary payment account". (forth red flag) I declined to answer, she pushed once for more info & then left it alone. She then listed the materials needed for the position, & said she was going to send a check for the purchase of said materials & that I would be making the purchase from "a certified vendor we have been patronizing for years now" (she never said the vendor’s name). (fifth red flag) She then asked me to provide her with my address & phone number for where she should send the check. (sixth red flag) I responded to that request with "why is there no phone number on your website?" (Google lists a phone number, but their website does NOT). She responded by telling me I’m obviously too skeptical to be interested in the position. I blocked her from there.
