Man going door to door in our neighborhood knocked and prominently displayed the ComEd and Nicor logos on a sheet of paper on the cover of a 3 ring binder. He said he was with ILG&E, a "third party representative of your electric company here to do our annual check to verify that you are receiving the new lower rates." "Remember last year?", he said. He then asked me to produce my electric bill and said that he wanted to call my name, address and account number in to his company to make sure I was getting the lowest rate. This practice is known as slamming and I am positive he was phishing for account information to sign me up with a supplier without my knowledge. Never reveal account information to door to door solicitors and call the police. ILG&E is an LLC and subsidiary of USG&E on Wacker Dr. in Chicago. An LLC is often used to shield a larger company from liability and commonly engages in suspect, questionable and/or illegal practices on behalf of the parent company while not exposing the parent company to legal action.
