Total money lost $530
Type of a scam Tech Support
As I was using my computer, the computer made a loud noise and a message covered my screen telling me I had been hacked and if I tried to continue I would lose my photos, all my contacts and emails, and the hackers would get my social security number, account numbers. They provided an 800 number to contact. I called it. The person I spoke with took control of my computer and showed me information that had been hacked. He said their techs would clean my computer and update the security. It does show on my computer that I have AdGuard AdBlocker and ATF Cleaner installed. I wrote a check for $530. He had me hold the check up, that’s when I saw he could see me. When I told my family about it, they said they believe I was scammed and should report it. The only documentation I have is the email I copied below.
