Type of a scam Travel/Vacations
My name is *** ***Â and I want to report a scam. On May 15, 2019, I made a hotel reservations with hotel.com to stay at the Battery Wharf hotel in Boston MA for
May 25-26 for 2 nights . Due to plan changes, I contacted Battery Wharf
Hotel on May 24 to cancel my reservations. The hotel clerk informed me since I did not book my reservations with them I had to contact hotel.com. I access the hotel.com website to get a phone number to speak to customer service. I placed the call to let them know I needed to cancel my reservations. It was nonrefundable but they
convinced me they could find other ways to get refunded . They persuaded me to purchase google cards and scratch the back of the cards and provide them with code information . After several hours on the phone to get refunded I knew by then it was a scam . These folks do not work for hotel.com. On May 25, I went to the Lowell Police Department to file a report. The police officer took my information . He also informed me to contact the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General. On May 24, I also contacted hotel.com and spoke to a supervisor . I explained to him what had happened. He told me that they have been having similar situations with other customers and that Management were working to resolve these issues. I am also providing the scammers phone number . The phone number 855-716-2111.
