Hibu/Chase

Jeremy – May 22, 2020

Victim Location 80524

Type of a scam Identity Theft

Received a poorly constructed scam text from a Hibu registered short code today. The message writer posed as my bank, claiming my accounts had been deactivated. They included a link that I can only assume is a phishing attempt.

The short code is 738-99

Message exactly as it appeared:

“Asecure Message From CHASE: We suspended your account because of recent activity on your account. To re-activate visit at: https://chase458.com/zNYcXng”

I’ve reported this to the CTIA and a few other agencies/organizations, but I could not find a way to report the incident to Hibu directly without giving them my personal information and consent to be contacted by them and their partners.

Hibu is aiding and abetting fraud by allowing scammers to operate on their platform for a monthly fee, or even directly engaging in fraud themselves by phishing for bank account information. At the very least this is a clear violation of the TCPA.
