Type of a scam Phishing
I received a telephone call this morning, October 16, 2019 at 9:28am. It was a pre-recorded voice informing me that my PayPal account would be charged for a payment of $399.00 (Not sure if I heard the amount correctly) and requested that I press the number 1 to confirm this transaction.
I DID NOT press any numbers and immediately hung up the telephone receiver.
I looked up the telephone number for PayPal and talked with a customer service representative who assured me that no charge had been received and had my account put on alert status. PayPal also told me that the call had been a scam.
I then looked up the company name that appeared on my telephone receiver view screen and obtained their correct telephone number and contacted them to let them know that their firm name had been used in this telephone scam. They thanked me for letting them know and they would forward this information to their IT department.
I am glad to report that there was no loss of money involved in this attempted telephone scam.
