Type of a scam Government Grant

My elderly mother was contacted by a trusted friend through facebook messenger telling her about this grant that is available to seniors with different physical ailments. Totally trusting that this was true, my mom opened the link that took her to a very official looking site https://govtassistprogram.org. A name of Nan Pranes as the agent to go thru was provided so my Mom began to message this person. This lady told Mom that she qualified for over $200,000 but that a 1% processing fee was applied and had to be given prior to getting the cheque. This is where she called me as she doesn’t do any online banking or anything. For this, I am grateful. I don’t believe in getting anything "for free" and was immediately suspicious. I refused to do the transfer telling Mom that 1 hour time limits are ridiculous and not the norm for any true transaction. I did get her to forward the conversation up to that point to me. That is when I read what Mom’s "friend" was saying and I asked Mom to call her directly. She did and found out that her friend had not sent anything. My Mom was so certain that this was a real thing. I am so glad that she doesn’t handle all her finances herself anymore. She really would have paid the "fee". This scam looks very legitimate on the outside.
