Type of a scam Tech Support
While searching the web, my father received a pop-up message stating his computer was vulnerable to a security breach and to contact the listed toll-free number. He did that and spoke to a woman claiming to be a representative from Microsoft. She somehow convinced him to allow her to remote into their PC to search for security vulnerabilities. After doing this, she of course found security vulnerabilities and offered to install security software for a lifetime price of $399. She then took over an hour to do who knows what while remoted into my father’s PC. My father shared with me what had happened and I immediately suspected it was a scam. I contacted Microsoft to verify that this company is not affiliated with them and confirmed my scamming suspicions.
