Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill
Online Business Listing. Caller asked to verify information for a business listing and asked if the person speaking was able to authorize payments. Shortly after this call, our non-profit business got an bill for $649 "online business listing". No other information was included. Was unable to reach the company by phone to dispute and the "contact" link on their website was (conveniently) not working. Did not pay the bill and have received phone calls insisting we pay. They have now reached a point where they say if we pay half, they will close our account and put us on their do not call list. They say they have a recording of someone authorizing the listing, but likely what they have is an employee saying "yes" at some point in the original phone conversation and they have digitally manipulated the call. We have filed complaints with the FTC, our State Attorney General, and now BBB. If this has happened to your business, please add your voice and stop them. Small businesses and non-profits are especially vulnerable and are the ones that can least afford these scams.
