Type of a scam Credit Repair/Debt Relief
I was very foolish. At many points, I should just have hung up. I gave the guy everything: my date of birth, my social security number, and my bank account number, as well as the numbers of all my credit cards. They sent me by email a document headed "RightSignature >>Billing Department," which, like a fool, I "signed." They gave me a "financial adviser" named Michael Morena and several fake phone numbers — 800-772-8566, 1-866-987-7206 (Ext. 5118) — and told me they could pay off my credit cards with a loan at 6.9%. Mr. Morena got me a new Discover card, which I need like a hole in the head. The guy who originally called me was named Angelo Rossi, who is at 1-866-987-7206, X5118. They said they’d withdraw $796 a month from my bank account in four weekly installments of $199, and I chose the start date of January 5. Then I went out to do some shopping. When I got back, I had a message from Capital One about an application for a new credit card. I called back, and the man I talked to said I was probably the victim of identity theft and should let the three credit bureaus know, which I will do.
Today I called the 866-987-7206 number and told the man who answered that I wanted to cancel my contract with them. He told me that I’d already received the services, so I couldn’t cancel.
My printer doesn’t scan documents onto my computer, so I’m unable to provide you with scans of the papers I have, which I received by email and printed out.
