Total money lost $100

Type of a scam Government Grant

I was called & told that I qualified for a once in a lifetime federal government grant because of good payment history, credit score & paying taxes on time. I was asked to purchase a pre-payed eBay card & send the number from the back of the card to assure my good $ standing. Then I was informed the $ would be released to me after I did the same thing & purchased a$500 card to pre-pay the taxes for the grant at which time the the funds will be released. The man I spoke to said his name Is Patrick Lewis & had trouble with his phone connection & had an Indian accent.

A few months ago I believe a person name Alex called me about that I qualified for a $9000 grant because I have no criminal records for the last 6 months. I was excited. But he said that since it’s a lot of money that I have to pay fees to receive a grant and that I will receive my grant and all of my money back like a reimbursement. I spent a total of $1250. After that he said that I have to pay $900 by July 6th for PPI (Payment protection Service) so they can so called keep the grant secured. They also sent me an email about the $900. After I was told that i knew something was up. I paid $1250 or so through google play store/Apple store cards. It will be very appreciative if y’all can get all my money back and find the person that messed me up mentally and financially

The guy said I was chosen to receive a $9,300 grant. He asked if I wanted it direct deposited or if I wanted to pick it up via western union, money gram, or Walmart. I said I wanted to pick it up at Walmart so he gave me a Grants money ID number and gave me a different number to call. I called and it goes to a voicemail.

Type of a scam Government Grant

I’m receiving repeated calls from various random places across the US (Common are Seattle, New Orleans, Fort Lauderdale, and Washington DC) from someone calling claiming to be the "Federal Grants Department" or something similar – saying that I have free money of varying amounts awarded to me. Sometimes they say its for educational purposes other times for just being a "good citizen." The calls usually come in waves every few days, ie when one calls you’ll probably get two or three in a row afterward – sometimes from the same number sometimes different ones. The callers don’t seem to speak English fluently (strong accents, clearly reading from a prompt, have trouble responding to questions, etc..) and the calls have very poor reception/connection (cuts in and out, they don’t respond right away when you pick up, etc…)

When I’ve asked to be taken off their call list (futile, I know, but I kept trying) they say "okay" then hang up immediately – but I still continue to receive calls. I’ve just put my number on the FTC do not call list – but that can take up to 31 days so hopefully that will help.

I received a voicemail that a federal grant had been approved for 11,300.00. This is a free grant and its money that does not have to be paid back. I called them back and could hear many people in the background scamming other individuals. When I asked questions, they hung-up on me. This is a huge scam.

This is suppose to be a $9000 Free Government Grant. They provide you a grant code confirmation and you need to call another number to get the information on how to receive your free grant money. But they want you to go and purchase a registration card from any store or Walmart for $200.00 and you must be on the phone with them when you are completing the transaction. This was one phone call (the call came from this number 202-706-0176) and I had to make another call to a different phone number. (202-602-2373, the number I had to call). Both numbers show Washington, D.C. on my caller id.

I received a call from a call center that originally had no caller ID. They contacted me telling me that I had been approved for a federal grant. When I told them that didn’t make any sense they hung up the phone. This happened three times. Also the women at the call center sounded Indian.

Caller identified himself as worker for Federal Grants Department, offering a non-loan, $9k Personal Financial Support, that the federal government owes me for going to college. He said I qualified because I have no felony record. I told him the truth and lectures him about me learning honesty, responsibility and integrity from just getting out of prison from a life sentence!

They say they are from the Federal Grants Department and when you fail to answer to the name they are asking for they are making harmful threats. I was just told " I’m going to cut your mouth" by the caller who failed to give a name.

A man with an Indian accent in a loud room called my phone twice this morning saying that I had been randomly selected for a student grant by the federal government because I had no criminal record and no bankruptcy. I played along and was given three options on how to receive my money. one was to get it wired to me through walmart, another was to have it deposited to my bank account, and the third was to have a plastic card sent to me through the mail. I selected the second option to see if I could give him a fake number too. He gave me the phone number (929)244-3566 to call. I asked him for his name, his company and location, before ending the phone call.

I received a call from an individual who claimed because I paid my taxes and had no criminal record, I was selected for a $8000 grant. They then wanted to verify my information, they asked if my address was correct in their files. I did tell them the address was correct, but I googled the federal grants department while on the phone and knew something was wrong. I asked them how they would even send the money, they stated that I’d receive a check in the mail in 6 months. I immediately hung up on them, called the number back and it wasn’t in service! The number that appeared on my caller ID was 862-236-1252.
