I was first contacted by Instagram from a good friend for many years requesting to follow me. I accepted because I had no reason not too. Her face page was her and her family. It started with her asking how I was doing and I asked about her an her family. They then proceeded to tell me that they had received a 50,000 grant that they didn’t have to pay back and that they know I had a family member who had been sick for several years and needed monetary help at one time. The sent me a text number and told me to get in touch with them and apply for a grant to help her. I have known this person for years and at first didn’t have any reason to disbelieve because this grant was based on need due to Covid. The more I ask about this grant I was at first lured by the need to be sincere with them so they could help me. I just had a funny feeling that something wasn’t right because it sounded too good to be true. I reached out to my friend and she said she never sent anything like this so I immediately stopped communicating with them before I gave any information out thank goodness.

A man portraying to be “ Agent Derek White” says you have to buy 3 Steam gift cards & put $100 on each & the winning money will be activated. I contacted the person who told me about this real Facebook page & I asked her was that her texting me & she said no so I immediately called Derek white out on his bluff

Scammer contacted me using one of my friends on MessengerApp. Advised he won $20,000.00 and said he saw my name on the list too, did I collect also? When I questioned what, he or she sent me the phone number to check if my name was on list and that I’m ready to collect. I was in contact with someone who used the name, Agent Guillermo Hernandez. I was on the list, and would receive the money by UPS the next day. Needed to pay $500.00 for handling fee. Was I ready?
That’s when I called my friend to see if this was legit, of course it was not and now I’m reporting this incident to whomever can try to stop them. I have the running script on my phone for both the scammer in Messaging App. and Messenger App.

I got a confirmation saying: "Thank you for confirming the number is 137626113 your payment of $572.56 has been scheduled for Thursday April 4th". *** Bank said they would not put the money on the card until Wednesday. He told me to go to my card to see if the money was on the card. Then he asked if I live alone. Then he asked if I was home. He wants me to go to Walmart and buy a card. I gave him all of my information on an application; name, address, email, but I did not give him my social security number. I’m too trustful.

I didn’t ask about the grant money but she got back with me and asked if I would be interested in the grant money, too. That it would help with small business and home repairs, etc. yes I was interested. Because I believed my friend. She had been hacked. I was so stupid. I fell for it I am totally embarrassed. They asked for $2000.00 in iTunes credit cards. Which I did. I am so stupid. Please pass this information along to stop these crooks. I guess it could have been worse. I just feel so stupid. All of the transactions and conversations are on my message on my iPhone.

A person named Jenny Parks contacted me by telephone. She did the initial intake for my information for this grant. She did not initially ask me my social security number. I was then transferred to a person named Ben Morgan. He was the financial officer. He’s the one who would release the grant money to me. He then asked me to register with the state of Colorado because it’s a federal grant, but the state has to approve it. He said you have to pay a fee of $240 to register with the state of Colorado before he could release the funds. This was a red flag and then I called the BBB. The amount I was being "awarded" was $9,500.

I ha one that a woman called instead of the man and she cussed me out which I cannot use the word she did on the internet and then she hung up on me. I told them I was reporting them to the BBB. But I got a messenger from a friend telling me about a grant that she received and telling me to contact this woman Jean. So I clicked on the link and there was a picture of a blonde woman (soldier) kneeling in front of a truck .
So I started talking to her she told me about a Federal Grants to all US citizens . And that I should answer her honestly …in the meantime my friend is telling me to do this they are legit I can trust her .
But I have to give her 1000.00 dollars for clearence fees …I ended up giving them $500.00 which is alot for me .I gave them my information my name a picture of my license my name address my marital status.
She was telling me she was going to check the Database to see if I am approved .
I did all of this ,in the meantime my friend is answering all of the questions that I had .
Telling me to trust her she’s a good woman I sent the money to a person named Godwin Akakpo
That was the agent and in the city of Grand Junction Co.
When all was done I realized after I called my friend and she never heard of this and it was not even her messenging me .
They took her name and her picture and started to talk to me , and first personal then about the Grant .
When I realized what was happening I called the bank , stopped my ATM card .
I was so upset I could barely talk to the customer service at Webster Bank
I also called the fraud line and they basically told me the money is gone and thought it was funny .
I also went to the police and filed a police report .
Webster Bank told me to write a long letter describing this in detail I am not sure they can do anything to get my 500.00 back .
I am so embarrassed by this whole thing that has happened to me and I feel utterly helpless in what has happened. I lost 500.00 to these people who know what the are doing .Thinking I was talking to a dear friend of mine just makes me sick .

Once I realized how desperate he was to get the $300.00 then I began to figure out that he was running a scam. He got no monies from me and I am so glad that I listened to my thoughts cause he could of taken all my money. He also stated to me that the $300.00 would be given to a charity in Nigeria and he called this place the motherless home. He sent me this name and once he thought that he had me he wanted me to wire the money to this person. Hassan Sheriff, ogun satecity, Sagaum Country Nigeria 23473. He did not accomplish what he sat out to do.

A woman my brother did not know facebook messaged him sending him a link leading to list with his name on it along with 19 others stating that he had won a grant for which he did not apply. My brother asked questions and a man named Adrian Gaston told him he would only have to pay 650$ to get a $25000 grant. He kept calling my brother even had another lady that was supposed to be the head of the company call my brother to get him in board. The man also asked to speak to my mother because my brother was discussing it with her about what he should to which she and I told him to report. My brother stated the called him back after disconnecting their call and proceeded to use profanity towards my brother.
