Type of a scam Government Grant
They called saying they were Federal aid. They asked if I did my FASFA and I said yes. Then they told me that I have earned a $4,000 grant and that I needed to tell them how I want to receive it. By mail or direct deposit; now at this time I thought it was legit. I said by mail, then they said I had to pay $3.58 for the postage. I have never heard of having to pay anyone to send a check. Besides a stamp only costs about 40 cents. I told them I wasn’t giving them any kind of bank information over the phone and he replied that he wasn’t a scam and basically argued with me about whether I should give him my information. I asked if he had another number that I could call to verify that he was who he said he was. He gave me the exact number he was talking to me on. I am from Kansas so I know what the Kansas area code is and when I asked him about where he was calling from, he replied that he wasn’t in Kansas that he was from out of country. RED FLAG. I told him that I would get ahold of my college and get back with him. I’m just glad I didn’t give any information. This happened Tuesday the 16th of august and since then he called again the 17th and today on the 20th, and I didn’t answer.
