Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes

Family Fitness of Grand Rapids, MI and the surrounding areas have a horrible reputation of how they conduct business when it pertains to contracts. They contact potential members and tell them they were entered into a sweepstake and have won a 3 day, two night stay at one of their nationwide locations, along with a free personal training consultation and two-year discounted membership. In June 2015, I went into the Plainfield location after being contacted by a representative over the phone. When I arrived at the facility, the representative showed me around the facility and asked me if I wanted to sign. I was happy to sign with the discounts I thought I was receiving. The representative proceeded to pull up a contract on her desktop, she summarized all of the "important" details and I trusted her because she was seemed to very nice so I took her word for it. I asked her if there was a period where I could change my mind because she made it seemed like this was a once-in-a-lifetime deal and she said I had 60 days if I wanted to avoid any fees associated with the membership I signed up for. The very same day, I realized it was a mistake after I went to see about the the hotel stay that came along with being a contest winner and there was an additional fee to register for it. I immediately called the Plainfield location to speak with a manager to cancel the membership and he told me I would have to contact corporate to resolve the issue. When I did get in contact with them, they told me I would have to pay the remainder of the contract if I wanted to get out of the contract. I wasn’t understanding how that was the case, seeing as though the representative told me otherwise. I went back over the contract to and noticed that there was a sentence that basically stated that representatives’ words could not be honored over the contract itself, which seemed very scammy to me. I wasn’t able to get out of the contract until I threatened legal action against Family Fitness. I would have let the situation go, if I had not received a text message from a representative last week and again today, with the same guise of free everything.
