Total money lost $2,000
Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes
I was scammed by a man posing as my Pastor’s wife on Facebook Messenger, saying she got a grant and telling me to get my grant. He used the name James Russell. He asked my name and told me to hold on, then he said I was on a list for a grant. I told him I was disabled. He told me I could choose the amount of grant money I wanted, so I chose to pay $2000 for $150,000 grant. He told me to go to a Wells Fargo Bank. I live out in the country, and I couldn’t go to Wells Fargo bank. Then he said Bed Bath & Beyond. On 4.30.18, I went to Walmart on N Kansas Expressway and I bought a $600 iTune gift card, then I went to Walmart on E Kearney & Glenstone, they didn’t have any iTune gift cards, then I went to Best Buy in Primrose Shopping Center, Springfield, OH where I bought $1400 worth of iTune gift cards. The clerk said there is a limit on gift cards, and I told him my pastor’s wife told me to buy them, and if you can’t trust your pastor’s wife, who can you trust. I took a picture of the security numbers off the back of the cards, and texted them to him. Everything was done by text. He’s still on my Messenger page, but I have not contacted him. I talked to my boyfriend, he made me worried. So, the next morning, I went back to her page, his entries were gone. I have his browser number it’s https:\\m.me\james65324. I called my friend and asked if she had contacted me about a grant and she said no. I only have an iphone not a computer, and I don’t know much about computers, messenger etc.
