Type of a scam Rental
I’ve been looking for rentals in New York city. I came across 2 apartments that seemed somewhat too good to be true, but in my desperation I still tried contacting them. The listing and pictures were/are legit. I contacted the first apt yesterday. He referred me to his website and told me to "apply" there and "thereafter you would be required to sign a lease agreement before making the required payment of monthly rent plus one month rent refundable security deposit against damage". He also included his email ([email protected]). I didn’t bother, since it was a bit far away for my liking. Today, i found the 2nd apartment in Central Park. 1700 square feet, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Gorgeous looking place at the NY Essex hotel for $3000/month. I contacted the person in the listing and no response. I then texted him and I got the same reply from the guy yesterday (apply on the website…), but he provided a different email than the guy from yesterday ([email protected]). Interesting enough, both listings were from the same person (I hadn’t noticed this until later on), yet different emails. I tried emailing the guy and it’s a dead email. On their site, http://explicitproperty.com/index, there are a few dead links and a few misspellings on the site. I tried contacting all the numbers provided on there and no one answers the phone (all of them have the same robotic voicemail). I can’t find their listings on any other site. I can’t find any reviews. I can’t speak to any of them. The icing on the cake was, i foolishly "applied" on their website (hopefully nothing bad comes of it), and they told me i was approved. I received an email of the approval as well as a lease agreement and request for deposit. He hasn’t responded to my questions nor shown me the apartment and is asking for lease agreement and deposit.
