Total money lost $1,550

Type of a scam Counterfeit Product

05-12-2017 Computer acted suspiciously then a pop-up came to the screen giving an 800 number to call. Assumption was that I would be getting help from Micorsoft. Instead the company "Eversoft Inc" said they were an authorized IT company for Micorsoft. They suggested strongly that I purchase a product to protect my computer from being hacked. The charge was $1550.00. It was to cover two computers for a lifetime.

07-11-2017 company called again reporting someone using my Amazon account had ordered $700+ dollars. They asked for an additional amount of money. I refused to pay. Am working with Wells Fargo to attempt to get money back.

Type of a scam Phishing

On my computer, a notice appeared saying I was being hacked and to please call ####-###-####, as a tech company they would fix the problem. After about an hour of running several programs they said in order to address my problem should it occur in the future, I needed to buy their insurance for $200. I felt very uncomfortable but went ahead and submitted the money. They did say they would return my money if needed. I realized I had been scammed and called my bank to start a claim. I then called the Eversoft Co. and told them I wanted my money back and that I had started a claim against them. Lo and behold they called and said they were sorry and issued the money back to my account.

That still didn’t address the crime of the initial problem of saying I was being hacked. I wanted to warn others.
