Type of a scam Online Purchase

I feel like a fool, I was dooped. I made an online purchase of a puppy (Christmas present). This morning (12/9/16) the courier (EMS Postal Service) calls telling me that I would need to pay for insurance which the Breeder never advised me of. The amount was in excess of $1200 of which I do not have and never would have made the purchase of the puppy had I known there was add’l costs. So now I am out the price of the puppy, my bank account is empty and my son will have no Christmas. I will be submitting a claim on the Breeder (Augusta Welsh Corgis) as well just in case they are working together. In researching the courier the address, business name or # do not show up via directory. When speaking to courier I told him this he then gave a different address and when I looked it up, it was a residential neighborhood. They proceeded to tell me that they cannot send the dog back to Augusta Welsh Corgi nor to me without payment. I asked what they would do with the puppy and they told me it would be quarantined for 30-90 days. I told them to send me everything in writing and they hung up on me.
