Educational Testing or College Prep

A representative from what sounded at first like the official College Board org called with an offer for ACT/SAT prep materials for my rising high school senior. You could try the CDs for one month and return without charge. One the CDs arrived broken. We returned them. Rather than crediting my card they mailed a check (less shipping costs, which was not explained on the call). Fine. Now I see a recurring charge of $69.95 on my AMEX which was never mentioned and I never authorized. Why are they charging me after we timely returned the materials?! When contacted they said that it gives the student access to a website for test prep. Again, this was never discussed, explained or agreed to. If AMEX didn’t catch this as a fraud alert, I may not have noticed. Their practices are deceptive and listing a charge as merely Educational helps them fly under the radar and be missed on credit card statements. They go by College Prep on the phone and Educational on my AMEX charges, with two locations one in Upland, CA and one in Anaheim, CA. College admissions testing is stressful enough. Families don’t need this nonsense.
