Type of a scam Online Purchase
Similar to others, this started with an online car search and a relatively good deal on the automobile via CarGurus. The story line was a pilot changing jobs which matched well with changing e-mail addresses. Links to the VIN# and photos were well done as well. Rather than brokering the deal through the online site, I was informed the vehicle was moved to the Edmunds Online site in Texas as the broker and the purchase could be completed there. When a ScamPulse.com search did not turn up the company and a Google maps view of the address seemed suspicious, a quick trip to the real Edmunds.com site quickly pointed out this was a common fraud technique. I will say this is/was a very well executed scam with good IT tools.
