Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
A cashier’s check for $2,468.24 was mailed to me. I was to deposit the check immediately and then spend $2,000 of that amount purchasing EBAY gift cards. The $468.24 was my compensation. The expectation was that I would purchase the gift cards that same day or the next, before the bank could inform me that the check was no good. There was a real urgency in completing this assignment. The numbers on the gift cards were to be sent electronically (the actual cards were not needed). I was texted immediately in the beginning; but when I did not send the information as they requested, the text messages ended with no inquiry into the cashier’s check.
