Type of a scam Online Purchase
While looking to purchase a Bichon Frise Puppy this website, "Donald Bichon Frise Pups Home", came up repeatedly. They seemed legitimate, once contacted asked all pertinent questions etc. We chose a puppy from photographs online and sent a money gram for $600.USD to a Bernard Ewane at 35 Fidelis Way, 1314 Brighton, Massachusetts, USA. [They were advertised at 50% off & when asked why gave a believable answer so we proceeded.] They advised shipping arrangements, vet check, paperwork was completed and the dog was to be shipped by air [free shipping was part of the contract, as well as a 30 day money back guarantee]. We then received an email saying the carrier required a refundable insurance fee of $1200. [to be paid to 2 different names & sent by money gram}. This was to be refunded to us when the dog was received. We advised them that neither US or Cdn. officials required insurance to transport the dog, therefore it was their sole responsibility & if they were not aware of this specific carriers policies that, again, was their responsibility. We asked that the dog be sent directly through the airlines. They replied that the carrier said this would be a ‘breach of contract’ & they would be charged a fee of $250. USD penalty. We were to send that in order to proceed with shipping the dog direct through the airlines. We then requested that he return our money via Money Gram, according to their stated 30 day money back guarantee. I’m sure we’ll never see the money or the dog! I would however, like to deter others from falling into his trap.
