We received the "your service is being cut off in 30 minutes if you don’t make a cash payment" scam phone call – on behalf of our power service company. They knew our account # as well as our address and past payment amounts. While trying to get through to customer service with Va Power to check on our account status, we made a trip to the bank "just in case." There, we heard about other people in our (tiny) town getting the same phone call. The scammers then called us back from the Dominion Va Power customer service phone # to find out if we were ready to make the transfer yet. Fairly sophisticated, we’d say.

This happened a while ago as well, the caller says that there is a technician coming to turn the electric off at our place of business and that they will only take a gift type card for payment.

I was scammed by someone pretending to be my electric company. I realized within minutes that I had been scammed and tried to contact MoneyPak to stop the transaction. Their website crashed on the fraud reporting form. THey provided no phone number on the website to speak to someone live. Seems that they are on the side of the scammer – or perhaps the scammer. GOt me for $1500. I wont stop until I am refunded. The scammer tapped into the actual phone number used by Domiion Power so that it was impossible to know that there were scammers.
